Your first steps in PushPushGo

The application lets you tag subscribers in four ways:

  • Manually, in the subscriber table
  • Automatically, with the help of tag selectors
  • Automatically, using the “Tag” step in module automation
  • By using an additional HTML tag on the page

Manually adding tags

You can add a tag to anyone in the table of subscribers. Just mouse over the cell in which the tags are located and the plus icon will be displayed. After clicking on it, the window with the tag search will appear.

In addition to searching, you can also add new tags and delete existing ones. To tag a subscriber, click on the selected tag in the search engine or enter any string of characters and press enter to create a new tag.

Tagging with selectors

You can use selectors to automatically tag users according to subpages they visit. To do this, go to the Automation -> Selectors tab and create a new selector by selecting the Add Tag action based on the content of the element.

The key element of each selector is its path. This is the css class, id or path to the element from which we want to get the value and create a tag based on it. For example, if each of our subpages has a title, we can give the css class of this title in the path parameter and then the recipients will be tagged according to the titles of the visited subpages.

Tagging through automation

Another way to automatically assign tags is through the automation module. You can choose the Tag action at any time during the scenario, which allows you to add and remove tags from each subscriber.

Tagging through additional HTML

It’s also possible to add tags by using HTML code on pages using code below:

<var id="ppg-tags" data-tags="Man trousers; size 30"></var>

You can separate any number of tags using semicolons. Users who visit the tagged page will be assigned the tags listed in the ppg-tags="" attribute.

Using tags in targeted campaigns

Now that you know how to tag subscribers, you should learn about the possibilities it opens for using tags in targeted campaigns. All added tags accumulate by default.

However, if you want subscribers to have only the newest tags, you can create a label that will determine the behavior of the tags on the subscriber.

Creating labels

To create a new label, go to the Subscribers > Tags in the side menu and click the “New label” button.

When creating a label you can define one of the two tag behaviors:

  • Overwrite tags with the same label
  • Delete tags after a defined time limit

Using labels

After creating a label, you can use it in two places:

  • In the tag selector settings. All tags assigned using this selector will have a specific label attached
  • If you use an HTML tag, you can enter tag labels using the label name scheme: Label name:Tag name:
<var id="ppg-tags" data-tags="Last category:Man trousers; Last size:30"></var>
